Atterbury Europe and its partners in Serbia and Romania have had an excellent couple of months as they received prestige real estate industry accolades for the excellence of their developments.

Newly released by Profit.ro, an analysis of the top retail projects of 2022 in Romania named two of the group’s developments in its top 10. Iulius Town Timisoara and Iulius Mall Cluj-Napoca were placed third and fifth, respectively. In addition, Iulius Mall Suceava and Iulius Mall Iasi also feature in the rankings. Atterbury Europe partners with Iulius Group in Romania.

This is not the first accolade for Iulius Town Timisoara, which was named a winner at the European Property Awards 2021, taking home the prize for best mixed-use development in Romania that year.

The 450 million-euro development is still the only mixed-use development in the west of Romania, and it has become a landmark thanks to its innovative synergy between office space, retail, park and public infrastructure. The groundbreaking development is not unique in this offering either – the combination of aesthetic and architectural appeal, accessibility, creativity and prime locations is shared across all the developments in the group’s portfolio, and no doubt contributes to their popularity in lists of Romania’s best retail assets.

Meanwhile in Serbia, the BEO Shopping Centre in Belgrade added another feather to its cap by receiving a commendation in the New Development category up to 45 000 sqm in the prestigious European Council of Shopping Places (ECSP) Awards 2023. ECSP is the voice for Europe’s retail property sector, and this was the first year that it presented its Design & Development Awards.

The new awards were split into two categories – New Development, and Renovations and Expansions, and based on their size, five winners and five commendations were announced, chosen from 16 finalists. Each was assessed on its innovation, design, concept, layout, performance and sustainability credentials.

BEO previously won an armful of awards at the International Property Awards, including for Best Retail Architecture: Europe and International, and Best Retail Interior: Europe and International. It was developed by Atterbury Europe and its Serbian partners MPC and opened in 2020, with 44 000  square metres of leasable space. Two different architectural firms were contracted for a creative partnership that saw Chapman Taylor focusing on the design of the exterior while TT Design designed the interior.

Offering a space that was designed with the gathering of people in mind, BEO Mall is much loved for its large central area, where events can be hosted, and where visitors can relax and take a break from shopping. The architects likened this gathering space to the public seats in a French park. The mall is also characterised by plentiful greenery, including large trees, which gives the mall a pleasant and fresh atmosphere, and which complements the Serbian climate and the national love of the outdoors.

“BEO’s design and interior brought a new dimension of shopping experience to Belgrade. It’s open, fresh green, light and just a beautiful, balanced shopping environment,” says Atterbury Europe Development Manager Roux Gerber.
